Multi-sectoral Community of Practice Amongst Librarians

Communities of Practice (CoPs) bring together practitioners who share a common interest and provide forum for them to improve upon their practice. The City Librarians Community was formed in late 2019 fulfil professional development need among librarians across the city. from sectors were invited join this multi-sectoral CoP with intent it being an opportunity networking, collaboration, sharing best practices. Multi-sectoral communities practice are not literature, most CoPs focusing on narrow subject area or hosted by single institution. This study reports results survey librarians, including those became members opted join. intended garner anonymous feedback CoP, determine its benefits, identify potential areas growth improvement. While did directly impact members, there have been perceived indirect impacts, information, hearing about librarianship issues other perspectives, affective, social elements. Many preferred informal, flexible approach over more rigid, academic slant towards meetings. Regular communication check-ins is another identified way handling natural attrition that comes continue keep relevant engaging City.
